Krishna Water Award: All-Party Delegation Useless, Says YSRC

The all-party delegation meeting with the Prime Minister on the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal verdict has been a mere farce, the YSR Congress has said.
Hyderabad | 21st December 2013
The all-party delegation meeting with Prime Minister on the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal verdict has been a mere farce and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has organized a show which is nothing but an eyewash, the YSR Congress Party has said.

"Article 262 clearly states that neither the Supreme Court nor any other court has the jurisdiction to adjudicate on any dispute on the sharing of river waters between states. Knowing well the constitutional powers and the limitations of the Government and the courts, Kiran Kumar Reddy has taken all the party leaders for a ride," YSRCP senior leader Dr. Mysoora Reddy told reporters here on Saturday.

The delegation has left for Delhi and returned with no purpose served, with the Prime Minister telling the team to argue the case strongly in the apex court. "It is unfortunate that people in senior positions are not well-versed with the provisions of Article 262. The all-party leaders' delegation need not have gone all the way to Delhi to hear from the leader of the country that they should explore legal options. It is not within his limits to arbitrate on the dispute, either," he added.

When all of us know that Parliament is supreme and that the judiciary has its own limitations, the delegation was still taken to Delhi for the free advice which will have no bearing on the result of the verdict, and the Chief Minister has fooled all the parties, Reddy alleged.

When asked about the meeting organized by the APNGO leaders, he said, "P Ashok Babu has invited political parties to discuss Samaikyandhra. In that case, only political parties that have clearly spelt out their stand on a united state should have been invited. When TDP and Congress, two parties which do not support a united state, are also invited, we cannot share the dais with them. Our party has been very clear from the beginning that it is for a united state, but the same is not the case with the Congress or the TDP."

"There could be sympathizers for Samaikyandhra in the Congress, but that does not mean it is the party's stand. The decision taken by the CWC, the highest decision making body of the Congress, will be the party stand, even if some of the members may have different views. The Congress stands for division, and it is going ahead with the process," Reddy added.

"Similarly, TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu had taken a decision to give a letter accepting the division after discussing it in the party's politburo. That is the party stand unless he either withdraws the letter or issues a fresh letter in favour of Samaikyandhra," he continued.

"Some people coming out and shouting slogans cannot be the party stand, and their acts and talk are not in concurrence with the party line. It seems that Ashok Babu is trying to provide a platform for leaders who are differing with the party leadership. If he is sincere, he should convince the leadership of Congress and TDP on the need to keep the State united and call them for a meeting," Reddy concluded. (INN)
