Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao vowed to develop the old city on par with other areas in the state capital, and at the same time appealed to Hindus and Muslims to uphold the age-old "Ganga-Jamuna tehzeeb" by maintaining communal harmony.
The Chief Minister was addressing a gathering of the residents of the Dabeerpura area in the walled city on Wednesday while participating in the Swachch Hyderabad campaign. He interacted with the residents and apprised himself of their day-to-day civic needs and other problems confronting them.
Deputy Chief Minister Md. Mahmood Ali, Minister Jagdeesh Reddy, Hyderabad Lok Sabha member and AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, the city Police Commissioner, MLAs and officials were also present at the program.
Addressing the residents of the area, the CM pointed out that for six months the administration of Telangana could not take off due to the non-allocation of officers after the new state was carved out. However with this process completed now, the administration was on the rails, and efforts were being made to speed up various developmental and welfare activities, he said.
KCR further reminded the gathering that the TRS government had dispelled the propaganda that the new state would face acute power shortage. In similar fashion, Telangana was marching ahead by initiating various welfare programs for the people and developmental activities to usher in a Bangaru Telangana, he added.
Referring to various issues and problems being faced by the people in the area, KCR immediately announced a grant of Rs. 21 crores for the construction of a water reservoir with a 1000 KL capacity to mitigate the drinking water problem. He also directed the concerned officials to begin the work immediately.
As regards the need for upgrading the drainage system in the area, the Chief Minister sanctioned an amount of Rs. 25 crores to begin the work immediately.
He assured that all steps would be taken to develop Old City on par with other areas in Hyderabad.
