Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "lacking the guts" to take initiatives for the welfare of farmers nation-wide.
Addressing a public meeting of the various farmers' coordination panels at Ambedkar Stadium in Karimnagar, KCR lashed out at the Congress and the BJP, and said that neither party had a vision for the welfare of the farmers, and that successive governments had denied them power supply. It was the pink party (TRS) that kept its promise of giving power to the farm sector, which would now reap the benefits, he said.
The Chief Minister expressed severe anguish over the Centre lacking commitment to the welfare of farmers, pointing out to how the farmers were deprived of support and MSPs by successive governments, and how the Centre had ignored the repeated pleas he made. He also attributed the pathetic condition of the farmers, many of whom he said were resorting to suicides, to the inefficiency and failure of the BJP and the Congress governments at the Centre.
He warned that if the same situation continued, he would take up a national movement against the Centre.
The CM also stressed on the need for linking agriculture across the nation with the NREGA scheme to help farmers lead better lives, and pledged that the TRS MPs would raise their voices in Parliament to mount pressure on the Centre for that.
"Now our aim is to make the farmer the king ruling agriculture and flourish by getting fair MSPs for his produce through farm panels across the state," KCR said.
