Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has been selected for the prestigious National Agriculture Awards for 2017 for his "innovative welfare schemes" for farmers.
The Indian Council of Food and Agriculture has selected KCR for the coveted "Policy Leadership Award - 2017" in recognition of his policies and schemes for the cause of the farmers.
According to information, a committee led by noted agriculture scientist Swaminathan proposed KCR's name for the award to be presented at Taj Palace in New Delhi on September 5 at 7:30 pm.
The KCR government was coming up with revolutionary policies and schemes in the agriculture sector, the council said. The council has been giving out awards for agriculture and rural development since 2008.
Besides supplying uninterrupted power supply for nine hours for crops, the TRS government waived off Rs 17,000 crores of crop loans. The government also announced a crop investment of Rs 4,000 per acre to all the farmers for a single crop. Now, the Chief Minister has instructed officials to take up a comprehensive land survey across the state and record the details online for transparency.
The KCR government has also been making efforts to complete irrigation projects in five years. Efforts are being made by the state government to complete the Kaleshwaram project in North Telangana and the Palamur-Ranga Reddy project in South Telangana to irrigate most of the lands that have been deprived of water so far.
