Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today addressed the water shortage problems being faced by the farmers of his constituency, Gajwel, and of the adjacent constituency of Dubbaka.
He asked his nephew, Finance Minister T Harish Rao, to take steps to solve the farmers' issues by providing water from the Kaleswaram Irrigation Project (KIP) to them via the canal that carries water to the Konda Pochamma reservoir from the Mallanna Sagar.
The farmers brought the issue to the notice of Harish Rao during his visit to Gajwel, and urged the minister to provide them with water from the KIP by making a breach to divert some water from the aforementioned canal into the Kudavalli tank.
The minister immediately spoke to the CM regarding the demand over the phone. The latter agreed to the proposal and asked him to take the steps required to divert the water to the two constituencies.
Speaking on the matter, Harish Rao lauded the CM's decision and said that it would help irrigate thousands of acres of land in Gajwel and Dubbaka. The farmers too thanked the CM and the minister for solving their problem in a timely fashion.
The Telangana government has been heavily invested in solving water scarcity issues in both the state's urban and rural regions. In fact, just last month, KCR had
laid the foundation stones for as many as 13 lift irrigation schemes in Nalgonda district's Nellikallu area.
