In a rare decision of sorts, the United Nations Organization declared that former President of India Avul Phakir Jainulabdin Abdul Kalam's birth anniversary on October 15 would hereon be celebrated as the International Students Day.
According to sources, the UNO has taken this decision to give Kalam a befitting tribute for his unquenched thirst for learning and his passion for teaching, and for the time he spent with students inspiring them.
Kalam died at the IIM in Shillong on Monday night, and the final rites will be performed in Chennai on Thursday morning, according to information.
