Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Sunday adopted his own village Parvathagiri in the Warangal district.
Srihari alleged that 69 years of independence could not develop the villages, which were still deprived of basic amenities.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking to the media after making the rounds of the village on Sunday and taking stock of its problems and issues.
Stating that he was adopting his own village, he promised to develop it into a shining village in the future.
"Every village should achieve growth akin to Gangadevipally in the Warangal district. Our efforts are in that direction, and developmental works will continue," he said.
He also called upon the rich to adopt villages to enable them progress speedily.
"Our ultimate aim is to provide all basic amenities to villages to enable them shine. That is the objective of Grama Jyothi, a flagship program of the state government. We are adopting villages to make them abundant in all basic facilities including water, power, roads, schools, education and health," the Deputy CM said.
