JD(U) Welcomes TDP's Announcement

"The promises made by the TDP would force all other political parties in the state to announce similar or better packages for the minorities, especially the Muslim community."
Hyderabad | 9th December 2012
The Janata Dal(United) on Sunday welcomed the announcement of Telugu Desam Party that it would provide 8% reservation to Muslims and Rs. 2,500 crores in the annual budget if it returns to power in the next elections.

Talking to media persons at Gun Park, JD(U)'s State Core-Committee Chairman Abdul Waheed and State President P Purshottam Reddy said that the promises made by the TDP would force all other political parties in the state to announce similar or better packages for the minorities, especially the Muslim community. They demanded that the Congress and YSR Congress party should announce what they plan to offer to the Muslims if they assume power during next elections.

Abdul Waheed demanded that the TDP should include these promises in its manifesto to ensure that they get implemented when party returns to power.

Speaking about Telangana, the JD(U) leaders accused the Centre of adopting a non-serious attitude to resolve the issue. They said that while the Centre has proposed to convene an all-party meeting on December 28, the State Congress leaders were demanding its postponement. They demanded that the Congress leaders change their attitude towards Telangana to avoid further complications. They also appealed to the TDP, YSRCP and Left parties to specify their clear stand on the Telangana state during the all-party meeting.

Earlier, the JD(U) leaders and workers including General Secretary K Pattabhi Ramaiah and Minorities Cell president Mohammad Ayub staged protest at Martyr's Memorial at Gun Park to mark the third anniversary of the announcement of formation of Telangana by the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. They demanded that the Centre fulfill the promise made three years ago. (INN)
