ITC, a multi-business conglomerate, is contemplating setting up a Food Processing Park in Telangana.
Speaking to media persons after inaugurating the two-day National Summit on Packaging organised by the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) on Thursday, Information Technology Minister K Tarakarama Rao said that the Mega Park would come up either in Gajwel, the constituency of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, or close to Hyderabad.
A delegation of officials from ITC had approached the Chief Minister earlier with a proposal for setting up of the park. However, KTR did not disclose the quantum of investment that would be made in the proposed park.
The ITC group had already submitted proposals to the government for the expansion of its existing paper plant at Bhadrachalam in the Khammam district with an investment of Rs 3,000 crores, the minister said. And the government had already cleared a proposal made by the group to establish a 5-star ITC Kohinoor hotel at Madhapur with an investment of Rs 700 crores.
KTR also disclosed that the State Government's new industrial policy would be unveiled in the ongoing budget session of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly. (INN)
