The Income Tax Department on Thursday issued demand notices to Telugu film actors Akkineni Nagarjuna, Raviteja and Anushka Shetty, and film producers Venkat Akkineni (Nagarjuna's brother) and D Shiva Prasad Reddy in connection with a few recent land deals made by them in Visakhapatnam.
According to reports, the IT Department, while issuing demand notices, asked the actors to file an explanation within 1 week.
The department had issued notices after noticing the inconsistent entries in their bank accounts about the land transactions.
Nagarjuna, Anushka Shetty, Ravi Teja and several other actors from the Telugu film industry had reportedly purchased huge tracts of land near the beach town of Bhimili recently.
According to sources, the IT officials in Visakhapatnam got wind of the various land transactions, and sent the information to Hyderabad office where they found no mention of the transactions.
Actor Nagarjuna, who is reported to have recently developed a convention centre in the posh Madhapur area, has invested heavily in this project. IT officials are investigating the income source for these investments.
Raviteja, who acted in the recent blockbuster Don Sreenu, is said to have charged a huge remuneration.
Earlier, the Bhimili court in Visakhapatnam had also issued summons to Anushka in connection with a land dispute, but she never turned up for the hearing of the case.
Anushka reportedly had bought the disputed land between the Madhurawada and Bhimili roads at a cost of Rs. 5 crores.
The IT Department seized several important documents on Wednesday during the raids conducted on the film actors' residences at Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and Srinagar Colony in the city, and also in Bangalore and Chennai.
