Kiran Kumar Reddy directs APSRTC, GHMC, HMWSSP, CPDCL, AP Transco, and officials concerned to make 100-day plan successful

Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday instructed ministers and officials to review the special 100-day development plan in the GHMC area.

"I want results. I don't believe in just promises and road-maps. I mean business. The 100-day mission for development of GHMC area is to bring in visible changes in all vital sectors like drinking water, power supply, road maintenance, road traffic and other infrastructure facilities. We have to work in mission mode to achieve this and I am sure we will be able to achieve it," KKR told the ministers and officials at the meeting, held at the Secretariat, to review the special 100-day development plan in the GHMC area.

The chief minister exhorted the officials to achieve their goals in these 100 days. "We should not plan what we cannot achieve. I am going to inspect the ongoing works once in every 2-3 days, in each of the 24 constituencies in the GHMC area, and constantly monitor the works," he said; "At the end of the mission, we should see that we have achieved what we planned"

KKR directed the officials to advertise the department wise action plans through print and electronic media so that the public would notice them.

The chief minister said that similar development action plans will be taken up in other municipal corporations and municipalities in the state in the near future, and that the ministers concerned have been issued directions.

He said that sanitation, improvement and widening of roads, provision of regular drinking water supplies should be given priority. Similarly all water logging areas should be identified and remedial measures must be taken up, the chief minister said.

He also directed those concerned to complete the housing programmes in the GHMC area, and to provide necessary infrastructure and civic amenities in those colonies. Referring to the approval of layouts in panchayat areas, the chief minister wanted to ensure that that the roads in the layouts were in accordance with the future needs of the public.

He has also directed the APSRTC MD, Prasada Rao, to introduce mini buses in the old city so as to decongest the traffic there.

The HMWSSB MD said that water connection works worth Rs. 25 crore would be taken up and completed in the next 100 days. The chief minister directed the MD to find a permanent solution to the water contamination, and come up with necessary plans for the 3rd phase of the Krishna drinking water supply program.

The chief minister went through the proposals of GHMC, hyderabad water works, AP transco, HMDA, traffic police, discoms, and RTC, among others. These departments came up with a road map for developing the facilities in 100 days. The GHMC plans to bring about a significant improvement in waste management and the road conditions, for the citizens of Hyderabad. GHMC is to bring all roads to a state of good repair at Rs. 135 crore, and action plans for bitumen and cement roads have been prepared.

The GHMC plans to make walking in the city friendly and aesthetically pleasing, and plans to spend Rs 13.5 crore to develop sidewalks, paint curbs, medians and poles, remove overhanging wires and improve junctions. As far as waste management is concerned, the GHMC commissioner said that all bins will be cleaned daily at a cost of Rs. 25 crore; all trash generated will be lifted daily, all bins will be painted ad repaired, and that all roads wil be swept by deploying 150 additional sweeping units.

The commissioner informed the chief minister that there are nearly 3.4 lakh street lights, and that they will be monitored by off site real time monitoring system (OSRT), which will be set up by January 2011. There are five zones in GHMC with 18 circles, and for the 100 Days programme, all circles will be allocated to an additional commissioner, who will oversee and monitor the progress of different components of the 100 days programme.

The HMDA commissioner also explained to the chief minister, the plans for 100 days including the completion of outer ring roads, improvement of parks and cleaning of Hussainsagar.

The MD of CPDCL briefed the chief minister on improving the power supplies in the GHMC area in the next 100 days, and on tightening the loose electric wires all over the city. He also briefed the chief minister on strengthening sub-stations, call centers and providing quality power supply.

The traffic police briefed KKR on their plans to improve the traffic in the city, by increasing the number of traffic signalling systems in the city.

Minister for municipal administration M Maheedhar Reddy, home minister Sabita Indra Reddy, ministers from the GHMC area D Nagender, Mukesh Goud and P Shankar Rao, mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, MA & UD principal secretary Appa Rao, GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma, HMDA commissioner Rajeswar Tiwari, CPDCL MD T Krishna Babu, HMWSSB MD Jagadeeshwar and other officials attended the meeting.
