Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today said that there was an urgent need to curb economic crimes and the spread of misinformation, particularly through the social media.

Speaking at the Cyber Security Conclave - 2025 at HICC, he talked about the growing threat posed by fake news, which he said was creating societal unrest.

"The dissemination of false information online has become a serious issue. Some individuals are deliberately spreading misinformation, and this must be addressed immediately," Reddy said.

Reddy also said that cyber criminals stole Rs 22,812 crore across India last year, making cybercrime a major threat to both the economy and public security, but that the Telangana government was committed to strengthening cyber safety measures and making the State a secure business hub.

"The State government is offering the necessary support and resources to cybersecurity experts and IT firms to combat cyber crime. We must also ensure that everyone is aware of the cyber helpline number 1930, which operates 24/7," he said.

The CM said that Telangana was one of the few States to have a fully operational Cyber Security Bureau and a dedicated cybercrime helpline to protect citizens from online fraud. He also said that seven dedicated cybercrime police stations were inaugurated last year to tackle digital crimes.

Stressing the importance of such proactive measures to prevent cyber offenses, he said, "Crime patterns are evolving rapidly. We must devise effective strategies to address emerging challenges. Prevention should be prioritised over taking action against offenders after the crime has occurred."

The CM concluded by calling for collective efforts to make the State a model for cybersecurity in India. He also lauded the efforts of DGP Dr Jitender, the Cyber Bureau director, and the TG-CSB team for organizing the event.
