Stating that Hyderabad had remained totally peaceful on Friday, City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy today appealed to the citizens not to believe in the rumours being floated through the social media.
Ever since the busting of an IS module in the Old City, rumours have been rife on the web about bombs being planted at various places in the city including malls and multiplexes, and arrests of more terrorists being made in Inorbit Mall and the airport.
The police chief refuted all such reports and said that police personnel in all the areas were on high alert and no untoward incident was reported in any part of the city.
He also said that elaborate bandobust had been made for the last Ramzan Friday prayers. 2,000 police personnel were deployed in the Old City for the prayers under the supervision of an Inspector General cadre police officer, he said.
After inspecting the bandobust arrangements at Charminar, Reddy said that Rapid Action Force as well as Special Police personnel had been deployed in the sensitive areas of the city to prevent untoward incidents and to ensure law and order.
Hyderabad South Zone DCP Satyanarayana said that CC cameras were installed around the Bhagyalakshmi temple situated near Charminar in view of a terrorist threat to the temple, and that he himself had inspected the security arrangements at the temple as well as at Mecca Masjid.
Satyanarayana said that the police could bust the IS module by tracking their online chats and mobile conversations. He also said that they had stepped up vigilance on activities on the Internet, and that security was tightened in the sensitive and hyper-sensitive areas in the Old city.
