Mohammed Zia-ul-Haq, the LeT terrorist accussed of attacking
Odeon theatre in Hyderabad and planning various terrorist attacks in the city, conceded his hand behind the attacks.
The police raided Sri Krishna Internet Cafe in the city, after Zia confessed to have had conversations with his Pakistani handlers from there. He is said to have accounts in 4 different banks, into which lakhs of rupees were deposited in it for his work.
Zia's journey as a terrorist started early. After finishing his 12th standard, Zia went to Saudi Arabia for a job, and there, he came into contact with LeT commander Abdul Aziz alias Abu Rehan alias Vali. According to the police, Abu Ali would exhibit CDs of the Godhra carnage of 2002 and the demolition of the Babri Masjid, and would preach that Islam is suppressed violently in India.
He reached Muzaffarabad after landing in Karachi, and underwent arms training for a month. It was here that he was commanded to create terror among the public in Hyderabad.
After the training, Zia crossed over into India along with 7 other Indians through the Poonch sector in Jammu and Kashmir. After reaching Hyderabad, he began working as a taxi driver, simultaneously operating in a sleeper cell of LeT.
In December 2005, he went to Delhi, where he received 4 hand grenades, and a pistol with 6 rounds, from a courier sent by Mehamood, the LeT commander. On 7 May 2006, he carried out a grenade blast in Odeon theatre in Chikkadpally, that injured 2.
Of late, Zia has wanted to revive his contacts with LeT handlers. He was asked to cause explosions in Hyderabad by using the material that was still with him.
He was arrested on 4 May 2010, following allegations of his links with LeT top commanders and with the terror attacks that occured.
