Explosives Sourced Locally - Forensic Team
Experts say that the material for the explosives was sourced locally, and the bombs might even have been assembled hours before the explosions took places.
The initial report by forensic labs on evidence collected from the site of the twin blasts that took place two days ago at Dilsukhnagar has revealed that 900gms of ammonium nitrate was used to make the bombs, along with petrol, several iron nails and bolts, and a 9 volt battery, all of which were kept in tiffin boxes that were left on bicycles.
Experts say that the material for the explosives was sourced locally, and the bombs might even have been assembled hours before the explosions took places.
Also, the amount of ammonium nitrate used reveals that the terrorists had intended the damage to spread over a circumference of about 50mts, say experts, who add that the nails and bolts were intended to peirce through the flesh of those closest to the bombs.
It has been confirmed that the initial plan of the terrorists was to plant three bombs at the Sai Baba temple in Dilsukhnagar, as it was a Thursday and a huge number of people would be visiting the temple.
However, a visit to the temple by Commissioner Anurag Sharma foiled their plans, and they had to resort to leaving the bombs on bicycles near Konark Theatre and Venkatadri Theatre.
The first bomb went off at 7:01pm, and the second one went off around 2 minutes later.
Eye witnesses say that the force of the explosions was such that several people to fly 5mts into the air before falling down.
The explosions are suspected to have been the handiwork of the Indian Mujahideen who have been known to have used similar explosives earlier.
