11 persons were arrested in the
Poratangar hooch tragedy, which claimed 19 lives in Mylavaram in Krishna district.
According to Krishna District Superintendent of Police Rama Krishnaiah, the 11 persons arrested were involved in procuring, manufacturing and supplying methanol-mixed-water (hooch).
The arrested were Azmeera Raju, Angothu Murali, Vijay, Koteswara Rao and Sarath Chandra of Kiron traders; and vendors Laxmaiah and his wife Bazi, Bhukya Redya and his wife Dholi, Banavat Laxmi and Lavothu Pagudu; who all delivered methanol.
Earlier, Prohibition & Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao ordered a judicial probe into the incident. He also ordered the suspension of a Circle Inspector and a Sub-Inspector of Mylavaram's Excise department. (INN)
