Pressure is mounting on the government from all sides, over the
latest hooch tragedy in AP, with an all-party delegation organised by an anti-liquor activists committee now demanding that the government look into the sale of spurious liquor, in concurrence with
the TDP.
The all-party delegation called on Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office, on Monday, to check the sale of spurious liquor, which claimed 17 lives on New Year's eve in the Krishna district.
The delegation urged the Chief Minister to enforce liquor prohibition to prevent the recurrence of these deaths.
The delegation appealed to the CM to put the liquor trade under total government control instead of the current public auction, in order to prevent a nexus among Excise, the police, politicians and liquor syndicate members.
The members demanded that the government order a probe into the Mylavaram incident and bring the guilty to justice. They also appealed to the government to announce a compensation program for the family members of the victims.
In a memorandum submitted to the CM, the delegation stated that the government should study the liquor policy of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and New Delhi before framing a new policy, to prevent future tragedies.
The delegation also demanded that the government make public the report on ACB raids on the liquor syndicate, and to take stringent action against the guilty.
The delegation consists of Mandava Venkateswara Rao (TDP), K Narayana (CPI), Bandaru Dattatreya (BJP), Manda Krishna Madiga (MRPS), Katari Srinivasa Rao (Lok Satta) and members from Jana Vignana Vedika. (INN)
