The issue of fee reimbursement led to a heated debate during the ongoing winter session of the Telangana Assembly on Wednesday.
Congress MLA Sampath Kumar initiated the debate by alleging that the TRS had failed miserably in fulfilling its promise of fee reimbursement to deserving students.
Replying to the Congress MLA, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said that the Congress MLA should get his facts right before accusing the state government.
Elaborating on that, Finance Minister Etela Rajender said that the government had released Rs 2,896 crores as against the Rs 3,200 crores target for 2016-17. The remaining funds could not be released as the data of the college students was yet to be compiled since the admission process would continue till November, he said.
With the topic digressing towards the issue of diversion of the SC/ST Sub-Plans funds, the members nearly came to blows.
Despite the Speaker directing the opposition party to keep the discussion confined to the issue of fee reimbursement, Sampath Kumar continued accusing the state government of diverting the funds meant for SC/ST welfare.
