The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been ranked as the third best university among India's public universities by India Today in its newly released rankings.
The ranks were decided through a survey conducted by the Marketing and Development Research Associates (MDRA). During the survey, the MDRA examined universities offering four streams - general (arts, science and commerce), technical, medical and legal - at the postgraduate level. Over 1,000 universities, including 155 "institutes of national importance", were surveyed.
In order to create an objective ranking system, the MDRA used a list of 120-plus attributes to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons of universities. These performance indicators were clubbed into five broad parameters - reputation & governance, academic and research excellence, infrastructure and living experience, personality and leadership development, and career progression and placement. Perceptual surveys were carried out among 369 "well-informed respondents" (34 VCs, 87 directors/deans/registrars, 248 senior faculty (professors)/department heads) across 30 cities.
Speaking on the matter, UoH Vice-Chancellor Prof B J Rao said, "It is wonderful to see that our University has retained its position in such rankings. I am confident that we will be able to improve on our already remarkable rankings in the future. As an institution of eminence, UoH will continue to focus on providing quality education and research opportunities that will propel us into the league of the best universities in the world."
Prof Rao also noted that such rankings enabled UoH students, the university's "primary stakeholders", to become much sought-after applicants by employers and funding agencies alike.
