Reiterating that the state government was committed to solve all problems of the students' community, chief minister K Rosaiah on Saturday stated the government will sanction scholarships for all eligible persons as per the prescribed norms.
Talking to media persons after laying the foundation stone and launching various development projects to the tune of Rs. 7.10 crore at Nagarjuna University in Guntur district, the CM said that the state government was committed to continue giving scholarships and providing tuition fee reimbursement to students.
He said the government has taken some measures to check misuse of the fee reimbursement scheme after reports of some students registering their names in multiple educational institutes simultaneously had come in.
He said that a cabinet sub-committee, consisting of a Group of Ministers, has been constituted to study the delivery system for release of scholarships and tuition fee reimbursement to students. This sub-committee would review the delivery mechanism every 3 months.
The committee would recommend measures to improve the release of scholarships and tuition fee reimbursement to students, he pointed out.
The government will make all efforts to fill the vacancies in educational institutes by appointing senior staff and look for innovative teaching methods in universities and colleges, he claimed.
Meanwhile, the students affiliated to All India Students Federation staged a dharna at the CM's program, demanding immediate release of tuition fees for SC/STs/BCs in professional college students.
Sensing trouble, the police took a few of students into custody to prevent untoward incidents and maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the district administration and police made elaborate security arrangements to mark the CM's visit to the district.
