GHMC To Look After Mecca Masjid

GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain has directed officials that the maintenance in and around Mecca Masjid should be looked after by GHMC and R&B.

Mayor Majid Hussain conducted a review meeting of Charminar Assembly Constituency, along with Charminar MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri. In the meeting, Majid Hussain stressed on the fact that the Mecca Masjid is a part of the state's cultural heritage, and that it is the responsibility of the GHMC to look after the conservation of this historical monument.

Apart from being a mere cultural totem, the monument has also been witness to instances of communal violence and discord (cue the Mecca Masjid bombings on May 18, 2007)

The Mayor has directed the Chief Engineer of GHMC to make a list of all the "stagnation" points before the onset of the monsoons, and to make arrangements towards disaster management well in advance by duly deploying sufficient labor at the stagnation points.

Majid Hussain instructed the officials to speed up the desilting of storm water drains as there are no major drains in the Charminar Assembly Constituency. Meanwhile, corporators have complained that not even 40% of the desilting work has been completed in their areas, whereas the officials claim that 60% of desilting has already been completed.

While reacting to the complaint of the corporators that the number of sanitation workers has been reduced due to the implementation of new groups in their divisions, Majid Hussain directed the Additional Commissioner (H&S) to furnish the list of sanitation workers who have been employed in each division, along with a letter of consent from the corporator concerned.

The Mayor further directed the Additional Commissioner (H&S) to take up a special debris-removal drive in the South Zone and Circles 7 & 8 before the onset of the Ramzan season.

The corporators of the Charminar Constituency Mirza Riyaz ul Hassan Effendi, Mohsin Bin Abdulla Balal, Mohd. Mukram Ali, Mir Zulefear Ali, Ranjana Devi Goel, Sunnam Srilatha Rajmohan and N Ravi Kiran; Additional Commissioners L Vandan Kumar, K Ashok Reddy, K Chandramohan Reddy and K Suresh; and senior officials had participated in the review meeting.
