GHMC Promises To Stop Illegal Constructions

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the High Court had not given any status quo in the N-Convention case.

He said that the matter was still being argues in the Court, and that the GHMC was been waiting for the Court's orders to initiate further action.

The Commissioner said that from now onwards, the GHMC's irrigation and revenue departments would be vigilant to stop unauthorized constructions and encroachments.

He said that the GHMC would have additional staff along with vehicles inspecting all the sites in its jurisdiction and stopping unauthorized constructions, duly issuing notices and seizing properties wherever necessary.

Somesh Kumar said that TGSPDCL and HMWS&SB were imposing hefty fines from today where permissions have been granted without the occupancy certificates. The Electricity Department was also coordinating with the GHMC and was shutting down the power supply while demolishing the unauthorized structures.

The Commissioner said that the joint team was working to judge things and initiate action against the people who have constructed houses unauthorisedly.

The Commissioner informed that every Town Planning Officer at the Circle level was maintaining an unauthorized construction register where the cases were being filed, and action was being taken after duly giving notices.

However, illegal constructions could not be stopped completely due to shortage of staff, he said.

He said that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had given instructions for the immediate recruitment of additional staff, and the same was in process. (INN)
