GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain, along with Nampally MLA Virasa Rasool Khan, Hyderabad Collector Mukesh Kumar Meena and other officials, visited the areas of Ahmednagar division on Thursday.
At the government school in Hasham Compound, the Mayor and the MLA saw that work on school building had stopped a few years ago.
The construction work was entrusted to an NGO, and it was found that the work was not taken up because of objections by Defence authorities. The Mayor and the MLA felt that the District Collector needs to intervene in the matter/
The Mayor also inspected the community hall at Bada Bazar, where an Urban Health Post is running. He said he would like a maternity centre set up either in the existing UHP or in a government building in Pochamma Basti, for the local poor.
He also visited the government school at Idgah, where a lack of facilities for students was found. The place was found inconvenient even for teachers. There were leakages discovered in existing building, no proper toilets, and no supply of drinking water and electricity. The Mayor directed the Collector to instruct the officials concerned to rectify things immediately.
Majid Hussain proposed an indoor stadium on the open land in Sriram Nagar Colony, and requested that the land be handed over to municipal authorities. The District Collector instructed the officials concerned to conduct an enquiry into the land, and to give him a report.
In Pochamma Basti, the Mayor inspected the construction of a school building, with a ground floor and 2 upper floors. He said that the building may be used to set up a hospital for the SC-STs and minorities residing in the area.
During the visit to MG Nagar, Owaisipura, it was observed that a school building with a hostel for differently-abled persons is being constructed. The Mayor said that the building could be converted into a hospital building or a playground instead. According to Rasool Khan, the government has already taken a decision to establish such institutions outside the city, and not in residential areas. Therefore, the suggestion that the building under construction be converted for the purpose above.
Further, the Mayor requested the MLA and officials who accompanied him to take local representatives into confidence while taking up government projects. (INN)
