The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) today began repairing roads and other infrastructure in the city that were damaged during the recent downpour that lasted for more than two weeks.
In order to find a "permanent" solution to the infrastructure woes of the citizens of the twin cities, the GHMC has employed quality control method to recarpet roads, apart from inviting IIT-H and JNTU professors from the civil engineering department to guide officials.
Speaking to the media, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said that around 75 crores has been released by the Telangana government to repair around 180 km of roads. He said that several experts, including university professors, had agreed to monitor and guide GHMC officials and engineers in the process. They are also looking into employing better and modern materials in preparing hazard-resistant tar for the roads.
Reddy pointed out that the condition of roads in the city caused not only traffic problems, but also an increase in pollution levels. He said that beginning from today, all roads in the city would be repaired or recarpeted, depending on the extent of the damage, on a "war-footing".
With the government's permission, the GHMC Commissioner called upon the HMRL, Traffic Police, water works and other departments to coordinate and expedite the repair works.
As per the GHMC, all information related to the progress of road repairs in the damaged regions in the city will be updated on its website on a daily basis to keep the government and the people informed.
