The Visakhapatnam police on Wednesday arrested 2 persons on charges of smuggling ganja in a van at G K Veedhi, an Agency area, in Visakhapatnam district.
According to sources, the police found the contraband being transported in a van, during their routine checks.
The police discovered 2 gunny bags packed with ganja, hidden inside a cavity of the vehicle, during their checks. The value of the contraband in the international market is estimated at Rs. 50 lakh.
The police took 2 persons into custody, and started investigations.
It may be noted that the tribals in the Agency area cultivate cannabis plants illegally in Naxal-infested districts bordering Orissa, due to lack of industrial activity there.
