Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone, Akun Sabharwal, on Wednesday, announced that a competition among Ganesh Mandap Associations will be conducted, in order to promote safe and eco-friendly celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Sabharwal said that the competition is aimed at motivating the Ganesh Mandap Associations in the twin cities, and to bring awareness among people about protecting the environment.
He said that the Society For Awareness And Vision On Environment (SAVE), in collaboration with ACT (Aurora Cares For Them), is organizing the competitions.
The best Ganesh Mandap Associations would be given 3 prizes: Rs. 75,000 as the first prize, Rs. 50,000 as the 2nd prize, and Rs. 25,000 as the 3rd prize.
The DCP said that 5-feet-tall clay Ganeshas are being sold at a subsidized price of Rs. 1,000 each, and that 50,000 small idols are being given away free of cost as part of the measures to promote eco-friendly celebrations.
Sabharwal revealed that Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan would be present, along with the volunteers of SAVE and ACT, at the Central Traffic Office at Basheer Bagh on August 26, when the clay idols are sold.

Hey why is that only Eco - Friednly aspect is being promoted , why not community service , we have been installing Ganes Idol for past 8 years with 11 days of Annadanam programme without asking for any donation , we mutually contribute among our gourp of friends & organise for this auspicious ocassion
