Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy on Sunday demanded that the Congress party stand by the statement made by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram made on December 9th, 2009, and begin the process for the formation of Telangana state immediately.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of Telangana MPs, MLAs and MLCs convention at MP G Vivek's residence in Somajiguda in the city, the Nalgonda MP said that the Congress announced the carving out of Telangana state in its election manifesto if it came back to power.
Sukhender Reddy said that the UPA government had even announced the carving out of Telangana state through the President's Address delivered at the beginning of the Parliament session.
Whatever might be the outcome of Justice B N Srikrishna Commission Report, the MPs would mount pressure on centre to introduce Telangana Bill in Parliament and make unstinted efforts for the formation of a separate state, he said.
MP G Vivek said that the Telangana leaders would chalk out their future course of action after attending the all-party meeting convened by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram over the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee Report on January 6th in New Delhi.
Vivek revealed that the attendees at the meeting also discussed the representatives to be named to attend the all-party meeting.
According to sources, some legislators had proposed MLA Uttam Kumar Reddy as one of the representatives. This was immediately shouted down by other legislators who opposed his candidature citing his close association with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. The Chief Minister is known to favour an integrated Andhra Pradesh.
The meeting also discussed resignation of public representatives if the report recommended the state to remain integrated.
