Five persons including three women were killed, and another woman was injured, at Chittampally Gate in Mominpet, Vikarabad district, today, when an auto-rickshaw and a truck collided.
The auto-rickshaw, which was carrying five agricultural labourers to the Shankarpalli cotton fields, had stopped to pick up more labourers, when it was suddenly hit by the speeding truck.
An RTC bus coming from the opposite direction narrowly missed being hit.
Sub-Inspector of the Mominpet police station A Ravi Kumar said that the truck, travelling from Sangareddy to Tandur, may have missed the parked vehicle owing to the heavy fog in the area.
Since the auto-rickshaw was completely crushed, the police and the locals had to struggle to recover the bodies.
Four persons, identified as Sheni Bai (55), Sandhya (18), Nithin (15) and Sona Bai (15), died on the spot, while another woman named Renuka (60) succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
