Five engineering students who went for a swim at the Dharmasagar reservoir in the Warangal district 10 km away from their college on Saturday met a watery grave as they were washed away by strong currents.
Among the dead are two girl students. The deceased have been identified as P Sravya Reddy (19), P Vinootna (18), Karne Siva Sai (19), P Siva Sai Krishna (20) and Ramya Pratyusha.
The students, who were pursuing third year CSE in the Vagdevi Engineering College, took a swim across the reservoir and stopped at a rock formation in the middle of the lake. As they were trying to pose for a "selfie" on the rock, one of the female students slipped and fell into the water. Her friends followed her and tried to rescue her, but unfortunately were washed away as well. The locals couldn't save them despite their best efforts.
The police launched a search for the missing students and retrieved all the bodies.
