Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Talasani Srinivas Yadav today inaugurated a fish food festival at the NTR Stadium in Hyderabad.
The three-day-long festival is being organised by the fisheries department as part of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations.
The minister was accompanied by Telangana State Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Banda Prakash, MLA Muta Gopal and senior officials from the fisheries department.
Yadav moved around the food stalls and examined various dishes made of fish.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the fish food festival was being organised at all the district headquarters, and was aimed at showcasing the progress of Telangana in fisheries and introducing different kinds of fish raised in Telangana's water bodies to the people.
He claimed that the fisheries sector in the State had registered tremendous growth since the formation of the State, and was now generating production worth about Rs 7,000 crore.
"Prior to 2014, Telangana used to depend on neighbouring States for fish. Now the State has increased its own production, and is very soon going to reach for exports of fish products to other countries," he said.
