Bharatiya Janata Party state general secretary S Veeraju slammed the state government for not protecting the interests of farmers, in the wake of the crop holiday that was declared in protest against the government's failure to provide remunerative price for their produce.
Talking to media persons at the party's state headquarters, he criticized the state government for neglecting farmers' problems, and for simply appointing senior bureaucrat Mohan Kanda to look into their woes.
He said that the party would observe a relay hunger strike on 12-13 September in districts where the crop holiday has been declared, in protest against the government's inaction towards farmers' issues.
Stating that BJP would intensify its protest against government for the cause of farmers' issues, he said that party senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu would lead the party workers in the hunger strikes.
Veeraju alleged that the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, instead of protecting farmers' interests, was busy making efforts to protect his own seat. He warned the State Government would pay dearly if it neglects the farmers' problems. (INN)
