Rythu Bandhu Samithi Chairman Palla Rajeshwar Reddy today said the farmer suicides in Telangana had reached zero, and that this had happened because of the pro-farmer policies being adopted by the State government under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
Speaking at a press conference, Reddy along with Government Whips Guvvala Balaraju and M S Prabhakar, and MLC Gangadhar Goud, said that since the formation of Telangana State, the number of farmer suicides had come down by 400%, and that Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar had once announced in the Lok Sabha that Telangana was no more seeing any suicides by farmers.
A National Crime Records Bureau report and the Niti Aayog too had said that farmer suicides had almost ended in Telangana, he said.
Reddy alleged that some media houses, a few fake NGOs and BJP leaders were however spreading lies about the issue, and were deliberately trying to tarnish the image of the State government despite the fact that there were no farmer suicides any more in the State.
He alleged that BJP State unit president Bandi Sanjay was spewing venom against the State government with baseless remarks, and asked him to prove his claim of 10,000 farmer suicides in Telangana.
