The city police, on Sunday, arrested 6 out of 7 persons, including a 55-year-old woman, in connection with the
Falaknuma firing case.
Addressing a press conference, city police commissioner Anurag Sharma said that 7 people have been arrested on the charges of attempting to murder realtor Mohd. Mansoor on 21 June while he was proceeding on a motorcycle from Vattepally towards Engine Bowli. The arrested accused are Mohd. Afroz (24), Mohd. Aleem (26), Habeeb Ismail Sankari (22), Abeda Begum (55), Mohd. Naseeruddin (25), and Mohd. Akbar (25).
According to the police commissioner, the enquiry revealed that the injured, Mansoor, was a prime accused in the killing of Abu Baker during August 2011. The murder took place under the Shalibanda police station limits. Mohd. Aleem, the second accused in the same case, was a childhood friend of Abu Baker, and was determined to take revenge on Mansoor. Aleem was also instigated by Abeda Begum, Abu Baker's mother, and Ismail. Reportedly, there was a property dispute in the family of a person called Habeeb Mohammad Sankari, amongst his sons and daughters, regarding a piece of residential land measuring 1,900 sq. yards in Qazipura.
Anurag Sharma said that to execute their plan, Md. Aleem had contacted his friend Afroz, and that later, they approached Mohammad, a cousin of Afroz, to procure firearms. About 3 months back, according to their plan, Aleem and Afroz, with the help of Mohammad, procured 2 country-made firearms and 7 live cartridges of 8mm each. The money was given by Ismail.
As per the plan, on the day of the offence, Aleem was riding the motorcycle, while Afroz was a pillion rider. Both were carrying firearms. Another accused, Naseer, kept track of Mansoor's movements, and informed Aleem about them.
When Mansoor reached Bibi Ka Chashma, his motor cycle slowed down due to traffic. Meanwhile, Afroz fired on Mansoor with a country-made single firearm, causing a head injury.
Mansoor was later shifted to the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, where he is still undergoing treatment.
The police recovered 2 country-made single-shot firearms, 5 live cartridges of 8mm each, one dagger, 2 motor cycles used in the commission of the offence, and 6 cell phones - from the possession of the accused. One accused, Mohammad, an auto driver of Jhirra, is still absconding. The arrested accused are being remanded to judicial custody. (INN)
