Telangana Forests and Environment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy today said that the state had set a new record by planting one million saplings in just an hour at a plantation drive in Adilabad district.
Reddy attended a program organised as part of the fourth phase of the Telanganaku Haritha Haram program and the Green India Challenge along with MP Santhosh Kumar and some officials.
To mark former minister Jogu Ramanna's birthday, a massive plantation program was conducted during which 10 lakh saplings were reportedly planted at the Durganagar Haritha Vanam.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy said that it was a remarkable feat to have planted one million saplings. He lauded the vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the initiative of the locals who had taken part in the drive in large numbers in the drive.
He then urged the people of the district to keep the environment as well as their immediate surroundings clean and green in order to lead healthy and long lives.
More than 30,000 part workers and locals had participated in the program.
Alongside its emphasis on re-forestation, organising plantation drives to mark birth anniversaries of prominent leaders seems to have become a sort of tradition within the TRS - this year and the year before, the party had organised
state-wide afforestation programs to celebrate the CM's birthday.
