Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Bhatti Vikramarka today visited a Dengue-hit region in Khammam and slammed the State government for not declaring an epidemic.
Speaking to the media, Vikramarka said that Telangana had been hit by Dengue since mid-Monsoon, and accused the State government of downplaying a health crisis.
The Congress leader, who interacted with patients in a hospital, said that the government, which had allocated 1 lakh crores in its current budget, has failed to allocate money to combat dengue and other diseases that have gripped parts of Telangana during Monsoon.
"Khammam has seen a rise in Dengue cases since the past 40 days. Nearly 30,000 cases have been registered in this hospital alone. Several people have died. Why is the government still not declaring an epidemic? Why fear a disease when treatment for its effects is available?" he asked.
He also pointed out that the State still had sub-standard healthcare facilities. This hospital itself had no beds and IV fluids or even diagnostic labs.
He urged the government to declare a health emergency and introduce healthcare facilities that met international standards in healthcare.
