England won spectacularly over South Africa in a World Cup 2011 thriller that went right down to the wire. The Eng vs SA match that took place at the M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai (a neutral venue), today saw England win by 6 runs in a low-scoring tie.
Stuart Broad took 2 wickets in the 48th over, at the beginning of which England required just 8 runs from 18 balls, and with the hard-hitting Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel around. Both, batsmen capable of big shots. And all SA needed was perhaps one big shot.
But that was not to be, and South Africa once more lived up to their tag of being chokers, losing the match from being 124/3 at one stage, and with 18 overs to get 48 runs in, with 7 wickets in hand.
Ravi Bopara of England was Man of the Match for his 60 runs.
The outcome of today's Eng vs SA match pushes England to the top of Group B, even if they will quite likely be dislodged by India if
its match with Ireland, currently on, ends in a probable Indian victory.
