Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) election campaign committee convener and Praja Kutami candidate for the Khairatabad Assembly constituency for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections Sravan Dasoju registered a complaint with the Chief Election Officer (CEO) against the BJP and the TRS nominees for the constituency for electoral malpractices.
Speaking to media persons, Dasoju said that both the TRS and the BJP contestants were distributing money, liquor and goods to lure the voters. He alleged that the TRS candidate Danam Nagender had distributed an unprecedented amount of money in the early hours of the day and in the late nights, and threatened those who refused to support him for the upcoming elections.
Dasoju also claimed that the BJP candidate Chintala Ramachandra Reddy was bribing the voters by distributing coupons for mixers and grinders.
He said that both the BJP and the TRS candidates were violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and undermining democracy. "If such malpractices continue, I am afraid that it is not possible to conduct fair and free elections in the Khairatabad Assembly constituency," Dasoju added.
Dasoju handed over the coupons distributed by the BJP candidate to the CEO and demanded the disqualification of the candidates in accordance with the MCC. He also reported the police officers for not taking the appropriate steps to prevent such practices.
He urged the State election authority to immediately intervene in the matter and send special observers to ensure that there was no misuse of the official machinery or police personnel, and to prevent blatant violation of the MCC.
