Shankar Rao To Be Arrested In Weekend

Shankar Rao and his brother are accused of trying to illegally occupy 875 plots in Green Fields Colony in Kanajiguda.

A day after Andhra Pradesh High Court lifted the stay on his arrest warrant in the Green Field land scam, the Cyberabad police, on Saturday, started making efforts to arrest former minister P Shankar Rao.

A police team led by the Alwal ACP went to Shankar Rao's house at Ramnagar on Saturday afternoon. However, the family members reportedly told the police that he was not at home. After collecting some basic information, the police returned from the place.

Fearing arrest by the police, Shankar Rao has reportedly gone into hiding. He will most likely apply for an anticipatory bail on Monday, or file a revision petition against the lifting of the stay on his arrest warrant.

However, sources say that the Cyberabad police was gearing up to arrest the former minister by Sunday night.

It may be mentioned here that residents of the Green Fields Colony in Kanajiguda village had lodged a complaint that Shankar Rao and his brother Dayanand were trying to illegally occupy 875 plots by creating fake documents that show them as the owners.

Based on a complaint, the Cyberabad police registered a case against him, and also issued an arrest warrant.

However, Shankar Rao has got a stay on the issue of warrant from the court, which was vacated by the High Court on Friday. (INN)
