Swaminathan Gets Pinnamaneni Award
The award was incepted in the year 1989, and some of its earlier recipients include E Sreedharan, K Anji Reddy and former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.
Eminent agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan has been selected for this year's prestigious Dr. Pinnamaneni & Smt. Seethadevi Foundation Award.
Foundation managing trustee Chadalawada Nageswara Rao and his wife Sudha told reporters, in Vijayawada, on Monday, that the award comprises Rs. 2 lakh cash and a citation.
The award will be presented to Swaminathan at a function at Tummalapallivari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on 23 December.
They said that this would be the 21st time that the award is being given to an eminent personality related to the field of agriculture.
The award was incepted in the year 1989. Some of the earlier recipients include cardiologist K Srinath Reddy (2009), architect of Delhi Metro Rail E Sreedharan (2007), K Anji Reddy of Dr. Reddy Labs (2006), scientist C N R Rao (2005) and former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam (1998).
The award was instituted to honour eminent personalities in the field of literature, culture, fine arts, medicine, science, sports and social services, and is being given every year in recognition of their services.
They said that the Trust would also present an award to Gayatri Vrudha Ashram located at Mynevaripalem of Guntur district, in recognition of its services to the aged. (INN)
