The popular fish medicine that its parent family claims cures asthma and other respiratory illnesses will be administered to people free of cost by the Bathini brothers on at the Exhibition Grounds in Nampally - from 6 pm on June 8 (Saturday) to 6 pm on June 9.
Addressing mediapersons on Wednesday, Bathini Harinath Goud, along with his family members, said that the fish "prasadam" was distributed to patients on the day of Mrugasira Karthi, which marks the onset of monsoon according to Hindu calendar, and which this year fell on June 8.
"Upon our request, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Chief Secretary S K Joshi directed the departments concerned to provide all the necessary facilities," he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Joshi held a review meeting with all the departmental heads concerned and directed them to provide all the needed amenities and the required fingerlings. The GHMC; the water works, fire, electricity and police departments; and the RTC are making the arrangements. The fisheries department will be providing two lakh fish for the program.
Apart from government departments, the Badri Vishal Pannalal Pitti Trust and the Agarwal Seva Dal ensure the smooth administration of the fish medicine every year. "They provide free meals, breakfast, drinking water and butter milk to the patients who come from across the globe, and are involved in various services," said Goud.
Explaining the process of the medicine administration, Goud said, "On that day, we put a yellow herbal paste into the mouths of live fish and drop the fish into the throats of the patients. For vegetarians, the family prepares a separate medicine with jaggery. However vegetarians need to take the prasadam for a longer period."
He added that patients have to swallow the fish medicine continuously for four years to get rid of asthma and respiratory ailments.
"After completion of the program at Exhibition Grounds, for the remaining patients we give the fish medicine at our residence at Doodhbowli in Old City," he said.
