Telangana Roads & Buildings Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao today directed the officials concerned to see that the National Academy of Construction (NAC) was developed into an employment agency alongside being a Centre Of Excellence to roll out a skilled labour force.
The minister was holding a review meeting at the Secretariat on the activities of the NAC, and advised that, besides training, the officials also implement a plan to provide jobs to the youth.
He said that in order to execute such a program the NAC would have to start coordinating with private organizations and prepare an action plan to provide jobs for the youth at both the national and international levels.
Directing officials to also expand the NAC's activities and continue breaking new ground, he asked them to focus on the NAC centres in the districts to offer training to the rural youth as well.
Speaking about the NAC's achievements so far, the minister said that a total of 3.76 lakh youth had taken coaching and training at the NAC from its establishment in 1997 to date. As many as 40,174 people had received training for the construction industry, he said, and added that the NAC's efficiency had improved after the formation of Telangana with 7,959 people trained in the 2017-18 period alone.
He added that the academy had recently provided 350 site engineers to the GHMC, and that in the future it would offer engineering and consultancy services to big private companies, too.
He also expressed hope that with the premier training being offered at the academy, NAC trainees would be considered the best in the country.
The review meeting also saw a plan seeking the approval of the SC Development Department for the construction of Ambedkar Towers at Lower Tank Bund being submitted.
