Eluru Congress MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao floated the idea today of giving the Deputy CM post to someone from Telangana, suggesting that that would end the movement. And needless to say, the comments drew instant flak from protagonists of separate statehood.
Coming on the heels of a Times of India front page report today that the Centre is planning to offer a cabinet minister post to TRS honcho KCR as an incentive to make him reign in the Telangana protests, the comments drew condemnation from all and sundry who insisted that the movement cannot be bought out by posts.
Leading the ripostes was emerging TRS star T Harish Rao, who said that KCR was not joining the Union Cabinet. Other leaders who echoed similar sentiments were Jeevan Reddy, Palvai Govardhan Reddy, Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Kodandaram. Harish Rao also accused the state government of trying to take attention off the Telangana issue, and said that they would no accept another committee being appointed to study the separate statehood proposal. The next Telangana JAC meeting on the 12th of January will lay down a roadmap for continued protests, he added.
The Telangana Porata Samanvaya Samithi - associations keep mushrooming all over the place these days, with today seeing the birth of the Telangana University Students' JAC - also said that Telangana leaders cannot be bought out by bribes of positions.
