Demolition Of Illegal Buildings Will Continue: GHMC Chief
Refusing to accept the Standing Committee's recommendations, the GHMC Commissioner said demolishing unauthorized constructions was a function of the GHMC.
Refusing to accept the recommendations of the Standing Committee, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said that the demolitions of unauthorized constructions in GHMC limits would continue as it is a regulatory function of the GHMC.
However, the Commissioner said that he would write a letter to the State government about the resolution of the Standing Committee regarding the provision of one more opportunity for building regularization, punishing the guilty Town Planning Officials of the GHMC, and stopping of the demolition of unauthorized constructions.
He made it clear that the GHMC was not showing any discrimination between smaller and bigger constructions, and that all unauthorized constructions, irrespective of their size, would be demolished.
He further said that there was no question of leaving some parts of the area intact while demolishing unauthorized constructions.
He appealed to the citizens once again to inform the GHMC about unauthorized constructions on GHMC's 24x7 Call Centre, 21111111.
Somesh Kumar said that it was a serious error when building owners did not take permission from the local body before constructing 6 floors in a 200 sq. yds. plot.
He informed that action had been taken against 4 officials of the Town Planning Department till date, and vowed that erring officials would not be spared. (INN)
