With the MLC elections fast approaching on June 1, the Telugu Desam Party began a legal battle against three of its MLAs for switching loyalties to the ruling TRS.
TDP leader E Dayakar Rao today moved the Hyderabad High Court and filed a house motion appealing for disqualification of T Srinivas Yadav, Teegala Krishna Reddy and Challa Dharma Reddy from exercising their franchise in the upcoming MLC elections.
In a related development, Telangana Legislature Assembly Secretary Raja Sadaram reportedly released a list of voters (MLAs) with their party affiliations, citing Srinivas Yadav and Tummala Nageshwar Rao as TDP MLAs, it is learnt.
The list comprises all the seven candidates contesting for the six MLC seats for which elections will be held on June 1 and results declared on the same evening.
Along with Yadav, two other MLAs of the TDP had switched over to the TRS - Teegala Krishna Reddy and Dharma Reddy.
It may be noted here that the TDP had repeatedly tried urging the Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary to disqualify the MLAs for defecting to the ruling party.
It is the discretion of the Speaker to take a decision or keep it in abeyance.
According to information, the High Court is unlikely to intervene in such legislative affairs. The TDP had to move the apex court as a sessions court had earlier rejected a similar petition. (NSS)
