The Dandi March II, which was undertaken by the NRIs residing in the U S, will conclude on March 26th. The march was conducted to highlight the demand for the constitution of a powerful and independent Lok Pal to eradicate corruption
The NRIs, under the leadership of People For Lok Satta and other organizations, began their 240-mile-long march on March 12th from the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in San Diego, California, to the Gandhi Statue in San Francisco, touching 35 towns en route.
Mahatma Gandhi's historic Dandi March from the Sabarmati Ashram against foreign rule inspired the NRIs to emulate him in their fight against the corruption in India.
The organization's Spokesman Katari Srinivasa Rao, in a media statement, said, "Transcending the differences of castes/religions and regions/languages, the NRIs, in large numbers, have responded to Lok Satta Party President Jayaprakash Narayan's call to join the Dandi March II."
On March 26th, rallies supporting the Dandi March II will take place in 12 cities of the U S, and 22 other cities, including Hyderabad. Indians living in Dubai, U K, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, and Malaysia are also planning solidarity rallies.
