Minister for Information and Public Relations D K Aruna, on Saturday, gave a speech to the beneficiaries of the Deepam scheme. Adressing a huge gathering of women, she spoke of all that she has done for the state since she became an MLA.
"Since I became an MLA, I have contributed Rs. 70 crores towards the development of women", said Aruna.
Speaking about interest-free loans that are provided as part of the Deepam Scheme, she said that the loans would depend on the savings accumulated by the people, amounting to four times the savings. "For example", she said, "if you have Rs. 1 lakh in your account, you are entitled to interest-free loans of upto Rs. 4 lakhs." She further advised the women to be thrifty in their spending in order to reap the benefits of the loans.
