Telangana CPI executive members Mallepalli Adireddy, Pasya Padma and N Balamallesh today severely condemned the arrests of the leaders of Left parties and other people's organizations while they were peacefully protesting against the shifting of Dharna Chowk from Indira Park.
The CPI leaders stated that the government's illogical action of shifting Dharna Chowk, where aggrieved people staged protests to draw the attention of the state government and the media towards their burning problems, from Indira Park was totally undemocratic and feudal.
Stating that the country's Constitution had given a right to the people to protest, they said that the KCR government's action in shifting the Dharna Chowk to the outskirts of the city would amount to a grave attack on the people's rights.
Alleging that activists of the Left parties, voluntary organizations and passersby were thrashed and arrested by police personnel indiscriminately while they took out a 2k run from the Sundarayya Park protesting the shifting of Dharna Chowk, the CPI leaders warned that they would storm the Chief Minister's residence Pragathi Bhavan if he failed to mend his dictatorial style of functioning.
They also warned that they would intensify the agitation if the arrested activists were not released immediately.
Among those arrested were M Adireddy, N Balamallesh, Pasya Padma, State CPI (M) secretary Thammineni Veerabhadram, JAC chairman Kodanda Reddy, AISF state president Venu and general secretary Sivaramakrishna, Mahila Samakhya state secretary V Srujana, Girijana Samakhya state general secretary Ramawath Anjaiah Naik, Prajanatya Mandali state executive president Uppalaiah, CPI state executive member Pusthakala Narsing Rao, I T Narsimha, CPI Medchal district secretary G Ilaiah, Ch Dasarath, Mahila Samakhya leaders Yadamma, Mahalakshmi, R Krishnamurthy and Rakesh, AIYF Medchal district president Lakshman and secretary Mahesh, and AISF state leaders C Lakshman, Nagajyothi, Kranthi and others.
