Actor-turned-politician and JSP head Pawan Kalyan today urged the people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to remain vigilant and safe through the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Highlighting the seriousness of the second wave of the pandemic in a statement released to the media, he appealed to the people of the two Telugu-speaking states to practice "Covid-appropriate behaviour", and to follow the guidelines issued by the ICMR and the advice of doctors to keep the disease from spreading further.
The popular actor, who himself
tested positive yesterday, reassured his fans that he was recovering well, and thanked his well-wishers for their support and prayers.
"I am under treatment and am following the advice and suggestions of the doctors to recover quickly. I will soon be able to resume my work. I am humbled by the fact that good wishes from every section of society have poured in for me. I thank all those who wished me a rapid recovery. The leaders and workers of my party have also performed prayers for my health. This support has left me overwhelmed. I thank all my well-wishers once again, and request everyone to stay safe," he added.
Kalyan also utilised the opportunity to target AP's ruling party, the YSR Congress Party, and flayed it for not strengthening the state's healthcare infrastructure to enable it to handle the rising number of cases.
"Though the number of cases has been rising unceasingly, the AP government has not anything to deal with the shortage of beds, emergency medical facilities, and oxygen. The state registered 7,000 positive cases in a single day. Our hospitals are not being able to handle the pandemic since the government did not take steps to prepare them in advance. I would urge it to take action now, before it is too late. It must immediately set up more Covid-19 treatment centres, and must increase testing to curb the spread of the fatal disease," he demanded.
The JSP head is currently quarantining in his farmhouse.
