Telangana Congress Steering Committee chairman K Keshava Rao on Sunday proclaimed that the Congress would suffer a "humiliating defeat" in the by-elections to be held in 6 constituencies in the Telangana region if the Centre fails to announce a decision on the statehood issue.
Talking to media persons at his residence, Keshava Rao said that the party would be wiped out from the Telangana region if it prolongs the issue to the Parliament's post-winter session.
However, he hailed the statement of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who stated that a decision on the issue would be taken soon.
Keshava Rao said that the Congress' leaders would not approve any special package or regional council for the region, and that hey would fight until they get Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital.
He also condemned media reports that Telangana leaders are trying to destabilise the Kiran Kumar Reddy government in the state.
Stating that a separate Telangana state would be achieved with the Kiran Kumar Reddy government, he said, "The Telangana Congress MLAs have voted against the No Confidence Motion in order to save the government. Why would we work against the same government?"
Keshava Rao expressed confidence that the Congress would win all the seats currently represented by rebel MLAs associated with the YSR Congress Party. (INN)
