Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Thursday announced that the Telangana government to be formed shortly would take all measures to encourage and help labourers, farmers and the working classes.
Addressing the May Day celebrations at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, Ponnala said that the Congress party had always supported labourers and the working classes, and that the new government of Telangana would ensure that their interests were safeguarded in the new State.
He said that the stability of any State lay in the welfare of its labourers, farmers and working class groups.
He said that these sections would have no complaints with the Congress government that he claimed would be formed after the declaration of the results.
Speaking on the occasion, AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh said that while Congress president Sonia Gandhi represented labourers, the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi represented the rich and the elite.
While the Congress wanted to empower labourers, Modi was planning to increase further the wealth of the rich industrialists.
Therefore, Singh said that labourers and the working classes would vote for the Congress party in the ongoing general elections.
Singh admitted that the schemes launched by former Chief Minister Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy helped labourers and the working classes.
As many as 56 INTUC leaders were also felicitated on the occasion. (INN)
